End of Season Staffordshire Rugby Round up

Midlands Junior Vase: 

Following a strong campaign Eccleshall overcame Bourne in the final to become Midlands Junior Vase champions for 17/18.

County Colts Cup:

A string of tough matches for both teams culminated in Stafford snatching the win against Burton in the final to become the Colts Cup champions for 17/18.

Rubery Owen Cup:

Linley & Kidsgrove vs St Leonards; a closely contested first half produced three tries and ended with St Leonards holding onto a slender 5 – 14 lead. A second half performance built on the back of five tries saw Linley work their way to a comprehensive 38 – 20 victory. Linley & Kidsgrove are the Rubery Owen Cup holders for 17/18.

Owen Cup:

Eccleshall vs Rugeley; a tight first half saw Rugeley going into the break narrowly leading 5 - 7. A second half performance built on the back of five tries saw Eccleshall overcoming their opponents to secure a 29 – 12 victory. Eccleshall are the Owen Cup holders for 17/18.

Intermediate Cup:

Newcastle vs Stafford; a strong first half saw Newcastle dominating with four tries to build up an impressive 28 – 6 lead. Despite a tenacious comeback in the second half, Newcastle maintained their lead to take the win 46 - 27. Newcastle are the Intermediate Cup holders for 17/18.

Staffordshire Senior Cup:

Burton vs Longton; Longton were unable to make the final and conceded the game to Burton. Burton are the Senior Cup holders for 17/18.

League End of Season League Round Up

Midlands Premier.

With 7 wins and 19 losses Lichfield finish the season in 11th place after an inconsistent season. After a difficult season 6 wins and 20 losses push Longton into 13th place and relegation into Midlands 1 West.

Midlands 1 West.

With one game left to play a magnificent 23 wins with only 2 losses guarantees Burton a 1st place finish and promotion to the Midlands Premier. A respectable 15 wins, 2 draws and 9 losses cements a 4th place finish for Stoke. With one game left to play a long season of 3 wins, 2 draws and 20 losses sees Wolverhampton sitting in 14th place and relegated into Midlands 2 West (North).

Midlands 2 West (North).

Leek completed a decent season with 14 wins, 1 draw, 7 losses and a 3rd place finish. With 6 wins and 16 losses, Newcastle secure a 10th place finish. Tamworth complete the season with 9 wins and 13 losses to claim 8th place. With a respectable 10 wins, 1 draw and 11 losses Walsall close the campaign in 7th position.

Midlands 3 West (North).

Following a tortuous season of 2 wins and 20 losses, brave Barton finish in 12th position and are relegated back to Midlands 4 West (North). With 17 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses a battling season from Burntwood ends in third place on points difference. A fluctuating season of 11 wins, 1 draw and 10 losses sees Cannock finishing in 6th place. With 8 wins and 14 losses, Handsworth finish in 9th position. A strong season of 18 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses leads to a 2nd place finish for Stafford and promotion back to Midlands 2 West (North). With 6 wins and 16 losses, Trentham finish in 10th place. An inconsistent season of 8 wins and 14 losses leads to an 8th place finish for Uttoxeter. A difficult season of 4 wins, 18 losses condemns Willenhall to 11th place and relegation to Midlands 4 West (North).

Midlands 4 West (North).

A long season of 4 wins, 1 draw, 11 losses, leads to Bloxwich finishing in 8th position and relegation to Midlands 5 West (North). An excellent campaign of 14 wins, 2 losses, sees Eccleshall finish in 1st place and promotion back to Midlands 3 West (North). A difficult run of 3 wins, 2 draws, 11 losses means Essington complete the season in 9th position and are relegated to Midlands 5 West (North). A good season of 9 wins and 7 losses, sees Rugeley secure 3rd place in the league. A strong season of 12 wins and 4 losses, is enough for Wednesbury to take 2nd place, securing promotion to Midlands 3 West (North).

Midlands 5 West (North).

With 3 wins and 11 losses, Gnosall end the season in 7th position. A good season of 10 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses sees Linley & Kidsgrove finish in 2nd place and promotion to Midlands 4 West (North). A solid season of 8 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses leads to St Leonards finishing in 4th position.

RESERVE and Merit Leagues: 

Reserves League Division 1.

Stafford Development with only 3 defeats and 63 points take the title and Tamworth 2's with 56 are runners up on points difference with Telford with Telford 3rd..

Reserves League Division 2.

Stone complete a decent season of 12 wins and 4 losses to seal 4th place in league. A very strong season of 14 wins and only 2 losses earns Whittington a well-deserved 1st place in a tough league with Wednesbury finishing the season strongly to take 2nd spot. Willenhall take the 3rd place.

Merit League: 

Lichfield 3's take the title with just 2 losses all season finishing with 75 points. Uttoxeter 2's with 66 points take 2nd place just above Walsall 3rd's with 63 points.
