Rugby Academy Launch

Stafford College and Stafford Rugby Club launch Rugby Academy.
A new partnership between Stafford College and Stafford Rugby Club will see sports
students able to combine their studies with valuable rugby training and gaining
coaching qualifications.
The Stafford Rugby Academy will offer the opportunity to study a BTEC level 2 or
level 3 Diploma in Sport at Stafford College, whilst also developing as players and
coaches in programmes based at Stafford Rugby Club.
Launching the scheme, Stafford College’s Sports Programme Manager Mark Kent
explains: “Under this exciting new partnership, our rugby academy students will split
their time between the college and the rugby club, which will give them a great
opportunity to benefit from valuable practical experience working with players and
coaches. As the club develops to its new site near the college there will be even
greater opportunities.”
He adds: “In addition students will playing weekly fixtures with AoC and British
Colleges Sport leagues, and work towards the goal of playing in the club’s senior
teams”
Commenting on this development Ian Haley the President of Staffordshire RFU said
“It is very exciting to see this development in a Rugby World Cup year. I am sure
students form across the county can benefit from this opportunity to develop as
player and coaches.“
School pupils, parents and local people who are interested in finding out more about
the Academy, are invited to a launch event at Stafford College on Thursday 12th
March between 5 and 6pm.
