Staffordshire Rugby Round up 14th April.

Midlands Premier.

Burton hosted Sandbach with the home side narrowly running out winners 25-21. Lichfield welcomed 2nd placed Luctonians but a difficult afternoon of rugby ended in a 19-80 loss for the Staffordshire side, unfortunately relegating them down to Midlands 1.

Midlands 1 West. (league complete for the 18/19 season)

Longton travelled to very near neighbours Stoke with a tight afternoon of rugby ending in a 19-24 victory for the potteries team.

Midlands 2 West (North). (league completed for the 18/19 season)

Leek welcomed 2nd from bottom Veseyans with a high scoring match ending in a 48-42 win for the North Staffordshire side. Tamworth travelled to Newcastle with a 26-35 enough to secure 2nd place league position and a play-off place. Stafford were away at Spartans, putting in a strong final performance to grab a 12-41 win. Walsall visited Crewe & Nantwich but a long afternoon of rugby ended in a 65-10 loss. Wolverhampton were away at Camp Hill with a 47-19 loss ending the black country sides promotion hopes.

Midlands 3 West (North).

Burntwood welcomed Wednesbury with a strong performance ending in a 40-22 win and enough to secure 2nd place league position and promotion. Cannock hosted Uttoxeter with a long afternoon of rugby ending in a 0-76 loss. Eccleshall were at home to top of the league Shrewsbury, but a difficult afternoon of rugby ended in a 0-21 loss for the Staffordshire team. Handsworth welcomed Harborne but couldn’t match the visitors with a final score of 24-73. Trentham couldn’t make their match with Cleobury Mortimer, conceding the fixture.

Midlands 4 West (North). (league completed for the 18/19 season)

Barton welcomed Rugeley, with the visitors taking the points 19-43. Essington were at home to top of the league & promoted Linley a high scoring game ending in a 34-59 win for the visitors. Willenhall travelled to Aston Old Edwardians securing a 2nd place league position and promotion with a 8-38 win. There were no league games for Bloxwich this week.

Midlands Reserve League 1.

No game for Burton who end the season in 3rd place equal on points with Derby.

Midlands Reserve League 2

Stourbridge Lions conceded the match to Lichfield who take the title this season. Wolverhampton recorded a fine win against Camp Hill maintaining 2nd spot in the League. The result for Bournville’s last game not in but if won they would move to equal points with Wolves.

Midlands Reserve League 3

A comprehensive win for Walsall sees them cement 2nd spot in the league and promotion to League 2 next season along side Evesham the league winners.

Staffordshire League Division 1.

St Leonards welcomed league leaders Tamworth 2nd XV for a 1st vs 2nd, but the visitors proved too strong with a 19-43 win. Whittington vs Willenhall 2nd XV ended with a win for the home side. Stoke travelled to Wednesbury and came away with a comprehensive victory. Stafford entertained a strong Ashbourne team and in a close game came away with a 27-20 victory. There were no league games for Gnosall this week.

Staffordshire League Division 2.

Burntwood take the title only losing 2 games during the season. Lichfield take runner up spot.
